There
are many advantages to having an herb and/or vegetable garden in Colorado.
The most obvious, of course, is that when used in culinary endeavors, fresh
produce can add that special touch to any dish. Another advantage is that herbs
can be grown year-round. In the summer, most herbs thrive tucked in among
the annuals, perennials, or other vegetables in the outdoor gardens, or in
containers on decks, patios and window boxes. When winter rolls
around, many herbs can be brought inside in pots and treated like Indoor
Foliage. Finally, herb gardening can fill that constant need of the
true gardeners to have their hands “in the dirt” as herbs do require year-round
care. Although primarily a summer endeavor, vegetable gardening, on the
other hand, can also extend into the other seasons when the garden is located
close to the house with a southern exposure. There is also the possibility
of canning or otherwise storing the products of the vegetable garden so they
might be enjoyed throughout the year. At Phelan Gardens we try to
keep a supply of herbs available all year and vegetables during the spring
planting season. Stop by to see our selection located in our greenhouse
and consult with our professional staff about any questions you might have.
